Thomas was owner, through his father, of the Vrangue
Manor, with much other land, and also the Maison des Freres. On
the first mentioned property, there used to be a small building, long
since in ruins, called 'Carey's Folly,' from which, it was said, that
Thomas used to watch his labourers at work.
Through his first wife, Michelle Falla, he was owner of
the Cartiers Estate (now called Quartiers) at St Sampson's. They sold
the estate in 1758 to Nicolas Falla and his wife, Marguerite du Four.
He died at Southampton, and was buried in a double vault
under the Communion Table at Millbrook Church. On his tomb is the inscription:
'Here lieth the Body of Thomas Carey Esq., of the Island
of Guernsey, who departed this life the 30th day of July 1780.'
