Peter appears to have settled in England and to have become
a Barrister, and later to have lived at Tauton, Somerset.
While on a visit to Herm, he found in the sand on the shore, a massive
gold signet ring, which was identified as having belonged to Pierre
De Beauvoir, Bailiff of Guernsey,
1480-90. He had used this to counter-seal official deeds up to 1485,
when the use of it appears to have ceased. It was probably at this time
Pierre De Beauvoir lost it at Herm. It is now one of the cherished possessions
of the Royal Court, having been presented to it by Peter Martin's son,
Sir Peter Stafford Carey.
