| Sir Michael was a renowned educationalist famous above all for pioneering primary education in India - his impoverished Doctor father sent him to Eton and then Oxford and much of his career was associated with Oxford University and Leeds. As a young man he was Steward of Christchurch and he ended up as Master of University College. | ||||||
