Notes for Anne Careye
Married in 1579 to John de Vic. Had three daughters, who married respectively James de Havilland ( one of the prisoners of Castle Cornet with Pierre Carey -C5 ), William Briard and Philippe de Beauvoir.
In 1594, she died, people said from the effects of witchcraft against her. A month later, Marie Salmon, nee Martin, was tried, condemned and burnt at the stake for having amongst other crimes, 'poisoned, tormented and caused the death using the art of sorcery, Dame Anne Careye, wife of Monsieur Jean de Vic'.

Jean held the position of Greffier - Clerk of the court. In 1590, he was accused by the Governor of Guernsey, Sir Thomas Leighton of defaming the Bailiff and Jurats. Sir Thomas wished to deprive him of the Custody of the Court Rolls as a punishment, however Jean refused the groundless accusation and was forced to spend two days in Castle Cornet before being acquitted.
In 1593, he was appointed Procureur de la Reine.
He owned the house of Normanville, La Couture, Guernsey.
After the death of Anne Careye, Jean married Elizabeth Pageot and their only son, Henry de Vic, became French secretary to Charles I, was created Baronet on Sep 3, 1649, Chancellor of the Order of the Garter in 1660, was English Charge d'Affaires at Brussels for many years, and on his death in 1671 was buried in Westminster Abbey.
