War Service: Commissioned as Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.V.R.; Lieutenant 1916; Commanded H.M. Drifter Ivanhoe and Senior Officer Drifter minesweepers, Cromarty 1915-16; West Indies Patrol, 1917 (mentioned in despatches); HMS Berwick, Convoy Cruiser, North Atlantic 1917-18; Dover Patrol, HMS Glatton, severely wounded at loss of that vessel 1918.
