| Notes for Francis Edward Carey |
Educated at Elizabeth college, 1847-53; College No.874; studied medicine; M.D., St Andrews 1858; M.R.C.S, Eng. and L.M. 1857; L.S.A. 1857, at Guy's; practice in Guernsey in partnership from 1881; Physician to the Lunatic Asylum, 1873-94; Inspector-General Royal Guernsey Militia; Surgeon, H.M. Prison.
Having completed a tour of Europe, Francis Edward felt that he would like to do something for the poor of Guernsey and it was for this reason that he studied medicine at St Mary's Hospital. There seems to be no great necessity for him to have taken a job since his father, Havilland was considered an extremely wealthy man. |
