Educated at Elizabeth College, 1837-47; College No. 562 and passed thence to Trinity College, Cambridge, of which foundation he became in succession Scholar and Fellow. His earlier successes were crowned with conspicuous honours in the Tripos, he being 9th Wrangler, and in the 2nd Class in the Classical Tripos, he was ordained Deacon in 1857, and Priest in 1858, and in 1859 was offered the living of Bawtry with Austerfield, formerly joined to the Parish of Blyth, and which in 1858 has been constituted into a distinct ecclesiastical Parish by the Masters and fellows of his college. Married on 14 Jun 1860 to Beatrice Outram. They did not have children. He died at the Vicarage, and was buried at Ashfordby, near Melton Mowbray.
